where is the best place to get an oil filter[ not a dealer]for my yeti??will do a oil change just before winter.only done 3000 miles,do you think i should bother!,or wait till i have a few more miles on her.

Hi Mike,

had PAT serviced (oil change) at 10,000, don't think with modern engines and oils theres need to change it before then. Although from experience with previous VAG products I'm not using the variable program; will use 10,000 miles as my benchmark for the Yeti and 10,000 or one year for the Fabia's.

thanks again tp,will hang on a while befor i change the oil,contacted my local car shop[the one on the corner which we all have :giggle: ]he has them£4.99 and £8.99 fuel.

why pay over the odds for an oil filter,after all,they all do the same job dont they :wonder:

dont think using a none dealer oil filter will invalidate the warranty,dealer said i can take it to any garage just to to change the oil, with no issues,will use vw oil though. :thumbup:

Don't wish to get drawn in to much on this one but regard the warranty I've always been under the impression that the use of manufacturer approved parts, not who carries out the work that counts towards a warranty claim.

EU regs were changed some years ago to stop manufacturers forcing people to only have their cars serviced at that manufacturer's dealerships. Now the vehicle can be serviced anywhere BUT only manufacturer's parts can be used and it must be done to the manufacturer's stated standard. In general that means the work has to be done by a reputable and registered to a Trade Org garage.

As for all oil filters being the same .......NO. There have been many reports of spurious makes not using the correct filter medium, not containing leak-off valves, and generally being of a poor quality.

Not at all actually, the filtering ability of the standard one will probably out perform many cheaper ones! (Having said that, im sure there must be some 3rd party ones that are very similar in terms of performance). :dull:

Iirc the three points are that the garage doing the work must be VAT registered, the service parts must be GENUINE and the service parts should be fitted in accordance to the manufacturers servicing schedule.

Oil and filters should never be skimped on imo. :no:

The Skoda oil filter (depending on precise fitment) is a shade over £10. Why would anyone want to shave a couple of quid off and take a chance on an non VAG part and potentially lose their engine warranty. I could understand the argument if we were talking significant cost here, but seriously all the potential grief for an oil filter :wonder: . Unless of course you're looking at a real cheapy for a couple of quid - if so then good luck to you, potential to lose your engine warranty and end up with a filter about as useful as toilet tissue.
