ICE - sub

Featured Replies

just wondering if anybody has a sub fitted and how they wired it? is there a power source in the boot and if not how would you run the cables to it?

i'm sure somebody asked this same question a couple of days ago :wonder:

there's no power source in the boot area that's big enough to run a big amplifier....

run the cables down the left side of the car, use a good 4awg straight to the battery via an in-line fuse holder, get the earth as near to the amplifer as possible, try a ring terminal under one of the seat belt bolts

ooops my bad thanks tho!

Hi Matt, I fitted one last week. I ran the wiring down the left hand side (passenger side) under the plastic trim. I hooked up to the stereo via the rear speaker wiring that terminates in the passenger kick panel (bottom left in passenger seat.) For a ground connection i went for the ground point next to the rear left light. I had a really tough time getting the positive power line through to the battery, I couldn't find an opening to run the power line through so I went out through the wiring pipe that connects the car to the passenger door then ran out of that through the front wing and in where the side indicator comes in.

Any questions more than happy to help! It's was a fiddly job taking all the interior panels off but worth it in the end.

the best place for the power cable is the rubber grommit that the steering column uses on the LHD models and isn't used on the RHD

How do you get to it?! I spent ages looking around but couldn't find anything!

and mines an estate so i will have to run signal cables from the head unit to the boot, might run it under the vheadlining

... might run it under the headlining

I wouldn't bother, that seems like unnecessarily complicating things - getting the headlining out and in again properly seems to involve dismantling most of the interior. Instead, it's 5 trim clips to get the passenger side sill cover off, 1 screw for the kick panel and pop the glovebox out, and you've got full access to the whole run from stereo to boot. Just follow the wires for the rear left speaker ;)

I agree with Robin after doing these several times in three cars. Go along the bottom, far easier. Start by running the cable from the battery towards the back of the car. Go through the large rubber grommits at the top of the bulkhead ( cut a small hole in them) - which drops the cable behind the dash. Run the cable behind the kick panels and along the car.
