Skoda Fabia Comfort Insurance [help]

Featured Replies

Hey skoda owners,

This is my first post so  . Just past my test on the 17th Dec and Im trying to get insurance (Norwich Union) for the 1.4 Skoda Fabia, Comfort. The car belongs to my mum and i'll be the third named driver. The insurance costs around

When I first "went it alone" I got insurance from More Than, no mods allowed though, and they gave me one years no claims free - best start to building up my no claims I could have wanted... Fat lot of good it did me in the end though.:rofl:

Are you saying that NU want

Well, I already have part-time work, but my parents say that them driving me there is costing a lot of petrol money. I say that if I drive there, it will cut the costs, but they dissagree  . My mum is currently with Swinton and if I were to be named driver with that company, it will cost

Another question I would like to ask is, do you have to wait for the insurance certificate to come, before you can start driving the car?

nope so long as you dont need to tax the car however if you do need to tax the car you will have to have proof of insurance to tax it and hence drive it legally on the road. But so long as your policy has started for insurance when you come to drive it then you dont need the cover note.

Richie, if you drive yourself to work and back again then that will presumably halve the petrol costs - but they won't have access to the car during that time, so maybe that's their problem with that idea.

I think that as long as you are covered by the policy from a certain date/time then you can drive from that date/time, I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong on that one :)

BenaldR, thanks for your input. When you passed your test, how did you convince your parents to get you insurance? Most of my friends' parents bought insurance for them even before they passed. Now most of them have their own cars and I just feel a bit stupid passing my test and doing nothing with it.

JaneC, we bought the car in 2001, and its hardly ever been used. I do P-T working on fridays and saturdays. I haven't been working in the last month or so and the cars just been sitting outside on friday and saturday nights, so I don't think that is the problem.

Thanks,

Rich

well for me to catch the bus to college and work everyday it cost about

The payments are fine with them, they are willing to pay. But the main reason is that they will be going on holiday for 3 weeks outside uk. Therefore leaving me with the house and the car. This leaves me around 2 weeks to get the insurance before they leave. Ive told them that they can follow me when I drive to college ( :( how embarassing), etc but it didn't work. My parents are the old fashioned style ones where they still think they are living in the 80's or whatever, and they lack trust in me. Somehow I have to change that, but nothing seems to work

a i c ... just tell them that it will be no different to if they are at home or not if you use the car your going to be on your own anyway. they cant look over you all the time. i mean youve passed your test and you just need to prove to them that you are a confident driver. get the insurance take either of them out in it and see what they think.

Good post, I think its because they are too scared in letting me drive whilst they are thousands of miles away. Like if I bash the car up or something.

They are going on holiday for 3 weeks in a few weeks and if I don't get insurance' date=' ill end up taking the crappy old buses . Over half my friends have passed and have their own car and insurance and I find it a bit stupid me spending all that time to pass (5 months learning and past 1st time).

Hope you guys can help.

Join the club- I have a Fabia, insurance and still take the buses. Once you have the car you have to find a place to park it and thats the problem!

NU seem to be asking a bit too much for my liking, but I don't know all the circumstances. I'd have said for a 3 driver policy (Your 2 olds and yourself) should be around max

All my friends have their own cars, which are insured on their parents name and my friend being a named driver. Although they are named driver on the policy, they actually are the main driver. I don't know how the insurance company can check if your driving more than you are supposed to be.

Ive actually sorted a quote and saved it, which costs

NU are fine for part time work commuting, and college and educational comuting mentioned in one of their clauses because i was worried about the same thing... if in doubt though ring them and ask...

My youngest (19) has recently passed his test, and we have acquired a car for him & I am named as main driver, he is named, for use to & from college & part time work. I was quoted

well for me to catch the bus to college and work everyday it cost about
What a nice caring Dad you must have.

Better start saving though SON........that policy is due in July! :D

bugger ... you could always insure me on your car :D

Thanks for your input everyone, looks like ill be gettin the insurance in Feburary :| , still gonna have to waste my own time for 3 weeks to get the bus in the cold rain.
