Insurance time again

Featured Replies

Usual question - insurance is up, and given prices are changing so much has anyone got any recent quotes for a modified car?

Renewal price has come in at £420, from £440 last year, so basically happy to go with that unless anyone has any tips.

Couple of surprises so far:

- Performance Direct: £500 last year, £1000 this year.

- Debenhams (just for a laugh, GoCompare chucked it out): £3400

I'll give Flux a call but they are always pricey for me, even though they're always mentioned for modified cars. Sky pricey for me too.

Any help appreciated :)

If your insurance has actually gone down in price this year(which is rare nowadays!) & your happy with the insurance policy you have id personally renew your policy. :)

Why not haggle with your current provider threatening to leave..works every time for me..

£420 is a bargain. Who's that with? Mine's up for renewal and of the month and is looking like 600-1000 depending on company!!!

You could always try Skoda insurance? They were cheapest including my mods declared:thumbup: I paid £380 with full NCB. Also replace like for like parts and at only Skoda approved places i.e main dealers etc.

Interesting - Skoda's response was "it's not the kind of risk we'd be looking to insure" - not sure how you managed it!

Did some ringing around today as I'm on baby sitting duty - a load more ridiculous quotes from so say modification specialists, I am however quite pleased to see more of the main stream sites including mods in their quote engines with a load of tick boxes to select what you've done - Elephant and Admiral (same?) for example both gave quotes around the £470 mark.

Currently with Graham Sykes - couldn't be beaten last year, probably can't this year. Haven't had to claim so can't really comment on how good they are generally (their paperwork/communication is very old school) but their prices are top notch. Better give them a quick ring to make sure they've got all mods accounted for.

Note of caution - some of the multi quote people (GoCompare, Money Supermarket etc) are quite happy to quote you for modified insurance and give you some seamingly excellent prices - only when you go to the site of the provider and check their eligibility criteria do you read that modified cars are comprehensively NOT insured!

Aviva were under £300 for me this time. My renewal notice from More Than was over £400.
