Temp Gauge no longer sitting at 90?

Featured Replies

Seeing as you have just replaced the water pump you may well have an air lock in the coolant system. Is the bottom hose on the rad getting hot? If it isn't you either have an air lock or a stuck thermostat.

Did you sort this out? I have a similar problem with my 1.6 Octavia mk1 but my temperature gauge is stuck firmly on zero. Also both cooling fans are stuck on and will not turn off even with the ignition key removed causing a flat battery. I changed the CTS and it was ok for 48hrs but it is now knackered again. Could do with some help on this, any ideas?

The stat change ain't too bad tbh.

Get a Universal joint and some extension bars for the rachet and it's easy enough. Without these it would be a pig I reckon

Did you use a genuine VAG CTS? Cheap eBay versions are notorious for not working! I mistakenly bought one for an Audi A3 Quattro a year or so back & it worked for 3 days then started going crazy

Definitely no air lock in the system. Thermostat was a possibility but the gauge is jumping from one temp to another which would lead me to believe it's more sensor or gauge related.

Have spoken to a friend who is an auto spark. He believes it could be the temp gauge on the clocks itself that may be faulty. He is going to take a temp reading at the sensor and compare with signal being sent to the gauge to confirm one or the other.

Never heard of the temp gauge being at fault. Did you use a genuine VAG CTS?

Mine is doing something along the same lines!! On a open road driving at 30+ mph the temperature is showing 90 but when I stop at the lights/roundabouts etc. the temperature goes down to just above 80 once a clear open road again it goes back up to 90???

Any ideas people??

P.S. sorry for the thread hijack :giggle:

I went out for a little drive last night, once the car was up to temp I had a little feel around and the radiator top hose is getting hot but the bottom hose (that comes up to the thermostat) was still cold!! Does that sound like the thermostat is not opening i.e. knackered? Lol

Stuck thermostat or an air lock.
