Spikes Spiders on Scout

Featured Replies

I dont really want to buy winter tyres but as an alternative in an emergancy these look very good :

Has anyone used them on a Scout ?

Would I have to buy 2 sets for a 4x4 ?

not yet used them on my scout yet ( as still waiting ) but have 4 new skoda 16" aloys with new 205 60 16 96H xl goodyear ultragrip 7+ tyres ready to fit

gone for the 60 profile as it better suits the original 225/50 than a 55 profile

rang close to 20 dealers and only 2 said 16" wheels were even recomemded for the scout but my dealer says no problem

Have you seen the price of a set? 'from' 239 sheets from Roofbox!! You could get a set of 2nd hand set of 16" alloy wheels and wrap them in snow tyres for not much more.

Alternatively, have you seen Snow Socks they have some good reviews.

These Spikes Spyders are not as good as winter tires, they performed badly in the German AA (ADAC) test. They are almost just as expensive as the tracks (by same company as the Spikes or try Maggy Traks), which have good traction perform close to traditional snow chains.

4-season tyres are also a good alternative if you only want 1 set of wheels and able to survive in the snow.

Front wheels only according to the scout manual. I do not know what happens if you use all wheels (actually I would like to know).
