DRL LEDs

Featured Replies

No No No, the dips are the super dooper HID's that go round the bends, they are white as white.

What I did change was the "Inner" high beam H3's

They are - "MTEC 12V 55w Super White Xenon bulbs - bulb choice H3 55W"

Also changed the Sidelamps in the same reflector - "MTEC Xenon Super White 501 Bulbs Sidelights"

PS. The sidelamps, still not installed as I've not made a tool to get the ****s out yet - lol, also the standard sidebulbs do have a blue coating on them so they are not as yellow as the others. The MTECs are blue glass like the DRL's so will look better.

The H3's are fiddly to change but quite doable.

Gotcha. Are the H3's easy to fit?

What the 'ell is the tool you are making? Sounds like Snap On time!

H3's are OK to do, they have a spring clip on the back of them.

As for the tool, I not invented it yet so I've no idea what it will look like - lol

It's too cold for the garage today :(

Canbus LED bulbs?

No...... You CAN fit standard LED's without the ECU triggering a bulb failure

I did put LED´s on the DRL but it´s on an Octavia

Where did you buy them? Anyone tested already such LED's for the Superb II?

Thanks guys. I'm going to order a pair of the natural chrome style (http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/mtec-mini-auto-bulbs/382-p21w-xenon-bulbs/mtec-xenon-super-white-chrome-style-natural-glass-382-p21w-12v-p-377.html) tommorow.

Lets see what I get first, the bulbs or the car. :) (I suspect the former).

Best regards

David

The bulbs arrived today, I didn't order them until Friday .....

IMAG0065.jpg

.... but as predicted I've still not got a Superb to install them to, the Honda is still occupying our driveway.

The car has been at the dealer for three weeks and I have been waiting exactly half a year for delivery. To say I'm getting a little pee'd off is an understatement. :(

Thanks for the sympathy, its getting a bit like late-delivery support group. Hopefully we will both get sorted next week. :)

In the meantime we just need to get Phil to stop telling everybody at any opportunity how he got his in only ten weeks. :dull::giggle:

Phil.

Just to pee Phil off, I got mine in 5 days.

It was sat in the showroom, unused, the exact model & the colour I wanted, so a 100 mile trip to see it, a deposit left, and collected 5 days later. :giggle:

OK, so it's missing a few options I may have chosen. :(

But overall its a :)

Wheels!

Wheels!

I thought wheels were still part of the standard UK spec?

I know they want to differentiate more between VW and Skoda, but that's taking it a bit far. :giggle:

Nothing wrong with my Thermisto's wheels.

I would have had the heated screen & washers and the auto dimming mirror. IMHO these options should be on an Elegance.

I ordered both,

http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/mtec-mini-auto-bulbs/382-p21w-xenon-bulbs/mtec-xenon-super-white-chrome-style-natural-glass-382-p21w-12v-p-377.html

And

http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/mtec-382-p21w-s25-1156-super-white-xenon-bulbs-p-373.html

Tried them both 1 in one side and one in the other,

When on in the day time, they both looked the same, you could see a blue / green tint in the light, very noticeable, not 100% white, I ended up leaving in the Chrome Style as you could really notice the blue bulb on the others.

But I think the reason why for both of these above comments, is because I have a new bright white Superb and this makes the Blue very noticeable.

I also ordered the Fogs as well for £9.99

http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/mtec-12v-55w-super-white-xenon-bulbs-p-393.html

Even though the light is whiter, I have not noticed much difference when using them as a cornering light.

So if there is an LED for the DRL’s then I would like to try them, if anyone can give me a web address link please.

Today I got round to trying out the replacement DRL bulbs (collected the car on Tuesday).

DRLMTECLeft.jpg

The MTEC Xenon Super White (chrome style) are actually quite blue when illuminated (the photo makes them look whiter than they are) and are obviously an after-market modification rather than the more OEM look I was after. They also didn't seem as bright as the standard halogens. For the time being I have gone back to the original bulbs.

Can anyone recommend a CANBUS compatible LED or pure-white bulb?

Best regards

David

Have you tried the (blue glass) ones, it's only the actual filiment that looks blue, the actual light seen in the reflector is white. I say this, but everybody's opinion in what is white and what is blue is different. :|

Hi,

Can you share where you got these LED lights?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/2pc-68-led-SMD-1156b-Fog-Lamp-White-LED-Lights-12V-_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQhashZitem4aa6633410QQitemZ320619099152QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories

They are not CAN-BUS error free. But I did a small trick to eliminate bulb error.

Also have them on my reverse lights

DRL

img0053jh.jpg

Reverse lights used to be H8 LED Bulb, DO NOT PUT THEM ON YOUR FOGLIGHTS, then where transformed with a BA15 housing same as picture on the earlier post.

Thanks. Can share your trick to cancel off the check light when using the led for drl?

Thanks. Can share your trick to cancel off the check light when using the led for drl?

In the back use a small 5w lamp ( same as the parking light)

Don´t mind the led bulb you see, that was only for testing

Onced hooked up if the led or the 5w bulb blows up it will show the bulb failure sign.

Same thing for the reverse lights except only a 3w bulb is needed.

img9541i.jpg

Some rockwool, DONNOT cover the bulb, let some opening for the heat to be expelled. If the bulb blows and the glass gets dark/white it´s a sign o heat.

Today I fitted my MTEC XENON SUPER WHITE (Chrome Style) NATURAL GLASS 382 P21w 12v Bulbs as cookdn shows above they are bluer than I would have liked but that does seem to fade a little when they have warmed up?

Mtec on left, OE on right.

MtecvOE.jpg

I also tried some XTec Super-White Xenon Chrome 501 bulbs - what a disappointment they are, they claim "Xtec bulbs are by far the brightest Xenon gas bulb available. " well IMO they are pants so I have left the OE bulbs in (which have a blue coating on them like the Philips bluevision bulbs).

Hi Gizmo68,

is the light turn on for the right side? if it's on, then the daylight is definitely brighter than the bulb.

I did the fogs too.

Phil.

Yes the R/H light is turned on!

Here is a comparison of just the bulbs, OE on the left Xtec on the right
