Squeaky noise in VRS?

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

My 2005 VRS seems to have developed a funny squeaking noise just over the past couple of weeks. It doesn't always seem to happen. The other day did 150 mile trip and nothing. Next day which was pretty wet and cold this squeaky almost rubbery noise seems to come from the suspension front and back. It seems to occur most when accelerating then lifting off accelerator or changing gear and on most bumps but not all. It seems to be when the weight of the car shifts around. I've heard the bushes are potentional problems with fabias. Does anyone know what it is and if its an expensive fix?

Any help much appreciated.

Quite possibly the console bushes - a complicated DIY fix, and quite dear to have it done at a garage. A very common problem, unfortunately!

Replace them with the ones from the old Ibiza Cupra, and they should last the rest of the car's life...

I had this problem with my 05 seat ibiza 1.2. Never got it sorted though cos i part chopped it in for my vrs after owning the car for a week! But my guess is console bushes also.

FWIW, a good skoosh with PTFE spray will keep the squeaks away for a while! :)

I've got the Same here mate...seems like it might be the console bushes...

Is that something you'd recommend even on a lower mileage car that doesn't exhibit the problem yet?

I'd leave it until it starts to squeak - I don't think it would protect the bushes as such; just stop them being so noisy when they're on their way out...

Thanks for the replies. Looks like an expensive garage trip then. I'll have a look at the ibzia cupra idea as well. Starting to think these Skodas got a few design problems.

I have a 56 VRS with 40k, and this stared up pretty recently - incidently it was after driving in heavy rain. I got to thinking theres water in between the bush and the bar???

Got my car checked out in the garage and they say its as you guys said. I need to get replaced both front lower suspension arm bush (rear).

They have quoted £185 including labour (2.5hrs), VAT and parts(£32 for both). These should be a standard set of bushes.

Is this a sensible price?

is it a really high pitched squeak? cause ive noticed this over the past two days aswel, possibly the weather.

No not high pitched more squeaky rubbery noise, hard to describe.

Make sure they fit the uprated bush (no full voids)

I had a service of my Fabia at a VW dealer in 2008 and they said the front bushes were worn. This year it started to squeak and now it is audible even outside the car. II guess I really need to get them replaced. My question is what damage can one do to the car if you dont get them replaced? Is it totally critical?

Cheers

Iain
