How much to change a light bulb?

Featured Replies

SWMBO's Micra failed the MOT today. Cause of failure was non-functioning tell-tale for the lefthand indicator.

Seems this is a common Micra fault caused by a failure in the instrument pack. The cure is replacement of the instrument pack at a cost of £560. :swear::swear:

If you send me the cluster, for £559.99 i'll solder a new led/bulb on....

even if you have to abandon the wiring on the board and run wires back to the indicator it's self, i can't see this costing £560

Drill a hole in the dash, put one of THESE in and wire it up.

It's not a MOT fail if there is an audible warning, you only need an audible or visual warning, not both.

I tried that argument - wouldn't accept it.

Check this out pages from MOT testers manual.

http://www.motuk.co.uk/manual_140.htm

Thanks for that Spectrum - that is what I knew I had read but couldn't find!

There it is in black and white

"Direction indicator ‘tell tales’ may be audible or visual"

Back to the MOT test station I go!

Audible does not mean you can hear the click of the relay, but that it has a seperate and distinct sounder fitted.

Not sure that modern ECU operated systems use a relay for the indicators any more so there is no mechanical clicking. As I discovered tonight the sound does come from some kind of sounder! I had the lights on and the door open so the "lights on" buzzer was sounding. Turned on the hazards and there was no clicking sound. Closed door, buzzer stopped and sound switched to the indicator click.

The Micra has more warning buzzers and beeps than any other car I have ever driven. Most are connected with the keyless entry and starting system and the one for the indicators is annoyingly loud!

RESULT!!!

Went to see the MOT station at lunchtime. Showed them the relevant bit from the MOT Testers Guide (thanks again Spectrum!!) and after checking that their manual had the same words they accepted that they could pass it. I now have the MOT certificate in my hot sweaty mitt!

Thanks for all the help guys!

However! Maybe this is a warning! The Micra must go!

Anybody want to buy a 2003 Micra 1.4 SE in Cornflower Blue 46000 miles... 12 months MOT ?
