Intermitent PAS Cutting Out - Battery replaced, blue alternator wire checked.

Featured Replies

PAS is intermitently cutting out, usually happens when the lights flicker more than normal. Check the battery when the car is on, normally its a bit above 14v, if the lights are flickering heavily and/or pas light is on, its around 13.5v

Had a search of the forums and checked/done the following.

-Had it scanned, only fault it a terminal 30 low voltage

-Replaced the battery, its over 4 years old, figured if the previous owner did a lot of short journeys it wouldn't of done it any good.

-Check all the earths, all look fine

-Checked the connector on the gearbox for the alternator wire, again, no sign of any corrrosion, had a good pull on the wires. Made no difference to the above problem.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Chris

Anyone ?

Could it be the steering angle sensor? Or if youre really unlucky, the pump?

Change the battery earth lead, have done a few recently and its been highlighted on our tech forum. Seem to be getting a voltage drop along them even though they look ok. Not expensive, about 15quid iirc.

Thanks for the replies.

What voltage drop is acceptable?

0.2v i'd think, seen some as high as 0.5v

Just checked the battery, engine off. Voltage across terminals 12.51v. Voltage from + on battery to negative on chassis was also 12.51v

Engine on, voltage accross terminals is 14.06v. Voltage from + on battery to negative on chassis was 14.25v

Re-started the car and across the battery terminals it was only 13.3v

Would that not suggest a charging fault? Is there anyway to check if the ecu is setting the excitation voltage to the alternator ?

Thanks

I've had the same problem and got told mine was leaking which leads to a new rack :/ mine only does it when turning quickly really lol
