cleaning inside of windscreen

Featured Replies

Hi,

Been trying to get inside of my winscreen clean, and all attempts leave smear marks. not clear on normal day, but with damp cold weather they show themselves.

what do you use to clean yours and what is the result?

Auto Glym Car Glass Polish. Works wonders although don't drip any on the dash as it is hard to get the white mark off!

Then buff up with yesterdays newspaper.....

Any household glass cleaner will do the trick. Once you have cleaned it off using a cloth, the trick is to buff it with kitchen paper or something similar, which will get rid of any residue.

Seconded on the autoglym. Also the fast glass is good for a quick clean.

Get a kent Glass cloth from Asda and some megs or AG glass cleaner. Spray on, wipe off, simples.

Yes avoid dripping it on the dash area immediately behind the windscreen. It is an absolute nightmare to clean off!

Vinegar and water, then buffed with newspaper (the blotting paper sort that leaves ink on your hands). And between times, I use a microfibre cloth from Aldi.

Damn, last of the big spenders, eh...

Leave warm air blowing on the screen while you clean it-gets rid of any damp & makes it much easier to get right!

Meguiars Glass cleaner and Microfibre cloths.

Spray on. Clean with one cloth, buff off with the second.

Ever since i used AutoGlym on the screen i cannot see out some mornings until blower has come on, i for one will not be using it again.PS tried doing our house windows with it to get rid of it , Mrs gave me stick , smears every where.

Mr.Muscle window cleaner. with some kitchen paper..

This does a great job on the dash / door panels as well so no worries about messing these up emoticon-0148-yes.gif

I'm a fan of 'Screenies' - the packets of impregnated wipes available in garages. They seem shift most stuff and don't leave a residue.

microfibre cloth. windscreen washer additive works well, I always keep a spray bottle full of it (diluted) in the boot.

Big spender or not its one of the best ways, I find white vinegar the best

As a former A/G salesperson.........method has a lot to do with it, it's not always the product used.

MF cloths are excellent, 100% cotton/linen also-old sheets are great. Mutton cloth or towels are usually pants on glass. Be careful what the cloth has been used for previously-any oily or silicone type product residue in the cloth will make a right mess!

Many household cleaners contain silicone, which works great on a mirror in your house, but smears like hell on your windscreen in the rain-avoid using on the outside of the screen, although it should be good on the rest of the glass. Newspaper or kitchen towel is great with a spray type cleaner, also the blue "forecourt roll" you see at service stations, although for heavy dirt like smoke or flies etc, a polish will cut through it better.

As for it making windows steam up worse, this is often because they are now clean!! The dirt actually prevented some of the misting up!

HTH.
