New to the whole detailing thing and would like to get some basic kit

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I've never been a big on the whole car cleaning thing but then I've never had a car new enough to warrant it, a trip to the local car wash was about it.

Now I've got a nice shiney car I'm going to make the effort to give it decent clean every month or so.

I've not got anything bar a bucket and a 3 pack of the orange wash mits from costcos so I need a few bits and bobs.

I've not looking to do anything fancy just a good wash, polish and wax. My wifes buying me the nilfisk c110 pressure washer and from what I've read the foam bottle is decent enough to use so all I'm after is some recommendations for the following items and where to get them from....

Snow foam for the nilfisk washer.

Polish for a racing blue vrs

And a wax for the car and wheels

Cheers Gaz

Welcome to the world of detailing and it's a minefield with plenty of money to be spent.................

To directly answer your questions:

Snow Foam:

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/elite-snow-foam-5-litre.php

You may need to invest in the proper lance however:

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/elite-heavy-duty-foam-lance-6-types-of-fitment-and-free-1l.php

Wax:

http://www.elitecarcare.co.uk/collinite-476s-paste-wax-detailing-kit.php?manufacturers_id=26

This can be used on paintwork and wheels, or try this one, both offer great durability:

I am not 100% sure you will want to polish the car as I am assuming you will be looking to fill swirls, etc as opposed to machining them out but you might benefit from using something liek Autoglym Super Resin Polish or something like Poorboys Black Hole.

I ran a Group Buy a while ago that is still available which is a simple Wash and Protect Kit for your motor that may be of interest:

I have also just posted up this Group Buy as well that may also be of interest:

Hi Baker,

I was hoping you'd see this and reply after reading some of your threads which are something else mate

Sadly I can't go down the road of full detailing as you said it soon becomes very expensive and I've already got a couple of expensive hobbies my motorbike and golf (not to mention the wife and kids!)

I'm never going to have the time to spend a full day detailing the car for two reasons.....firstly if I do my car I'll need to do the wifes but more importantly we've got young twins so I'd rather spend time with them.

My VRS is new so I'm hoping to get some decent wax on it now to protect it, then I should just be able to give it a quick wash every week and be good to go.

The simple Wash and Protect Kit looks ideal for what I'm looking for so I'll see about adding that to my birthday list

Cheers again for the detailed reply

Gaz

No problem mate, all the best with the family and I completely understand...........

(BTW I make nothing out of any of these links, all the kits put together are me passing on information to fellow enthusiasts)

Cheers Bud!

And I did see that you weren't making anything off these offers which is why the forum is lucky to have guys like you helping out.

If your ever up North then I'd gladly pay you to detail my car, it'd be good to see a pro in action ;)
