headgasket gone ? overheating ?

Featured Replies

hi guys, think my headgasket has gone, parked up with my friend the other day left engine on and it began overheating, fans do not kick in at all ? water is brown n gungey?

have had a compression test done n it says head gasket going or gone, but cant find out why the fans done kick in have had diagnostics done and dosent come up on there either ?

has this happend to anyone else ? common fault with the fans? i think the fans have stopped working and caused engine 2 overheat?...

cheers ross

fans not coming on was a mrk 4 golf problem i think . If you let it get in to the red and turned it off you might have safed the gasket

maybe a blockage somewhere or faulty sensor ?

Hope it didn't get too hot - Fingers crossed you've not warped the head :o

Just had my head gasket changed - being charged £250 + the gasket

Mine was detected very early luckily ( by analysing the exhaust gases whilst the car was being mapped )

Coolant Temp Sensor failure is very common on VAG cars. The CTS has 2 feeds, one goes to the gauge & the other to the ECU. If the feed to the ECU is telling it that the engine is cold it wouldn't switch the fans on. Faulty CTS doesn't always show up on diagnostics. If your car has the old black CTS it's probably at fault. VW/Audi had so many problems with that CTS they revised the part. If you replace it make sure you get the later green CTS.
