Thinking of getting one of these for our VW polo - C-Reader V. Does anyone know if they are any good?

Depends on what you wanna do with it and what Year your Polo actually is.

The Polo is 2001 and has, what we believe to be, a thrust sensor problem. I just want to be able to erase the codes once fixed, then be able to read any new codes. The other features such as reading live data would be useful as the water temp gauge is on the blink. I'll also be getting an Octavia soon, so will want to use for that as well.

The VAG5053 & U600 look interesting, but do cost more than the C-Reader V.

OBD2/EOBD was introduced in 2000/2001 for the Gasoline Engines and 2003/2004 for the Diesels in Europe. So based on experience EOBD will not get you very far on those, it may work to read and clear DTCs but eventually will not show all DTCs to begin with.

Take a look at this part of our FAQ which explains the difference, we also have a nice comparison on our website.
