Felicia - engine not warming up

Featured Replies

Hi all.

My engine doesn't seem to be warming up properly. The gauge doesn't move at all now, and the air coming into the car is warm but I'm sure it's not as warm as it should be and definitely cooler than it was this time last year.

I've googled a bit and it looks like replacing the thermostat may be the answer. Can anyone confirm this is likely to be the issue? I can see on Jorily that I could get a new one for about a tenner, is it difficult to replace?

Sounds very much like the typical thermostat symptoms - it's either the housing or the stat itself (or both, but usually the plastic clip on the housing breaks off first so the stat has nothing to push itself closed against). It's definitely worth getting the kit with the redesigned top housing from Jorily - if your original one happens to be still intact, all that means it hasn't disintegrated yet ;)

In terms of fitting it - drain the coolant, pull off some hoses and undo a few screws, then reassemble in reverse. If you know the coolant's good and doesn't need changing, you can get away with only draining a couple of litres or so off just to prevent spillage.
