Felicia 1.9 Horn

Featured Replies

Hi , I am new here and am looking for advice regarding horn wiring .

I recently had water damage to fuse / relay box and after disassembly and cleaning corrosion , one the plug pins that extends from one of the many copper strips has broken off . I found that this pin was part of the horn circuit and is no longer working .

I wanted to rewire the horn but noticed in the Haynes wiring diagram , there is no relay in the horn circuit but shares the 25 Amp fuse with the lighs dimmer switch . Is it ok to wire the horn without a relay ?

Thanks , Phil D

it's ok to wire it without a relay so long as the switch you use is enough to cope with it...

i've got a brand spanking new horn slip ring somewhere :wonder:

Tom -( for the benefit of the poster) - does the condition of the ( if fitted) upper steering bearing affect the horn circuit. Had one old car at one time that had horn problems, due to wear on the slip ring ( not a lot ,certainly not enough to fail MOT) and horn operation was iffy, till a lot of low current skullduggery ( using low current/high impedance electronics) was applied .

Often wondered about legality of fitting a Bedlam tone caller ( 110dB electronic phone sounder ) in place of horn .It works well of of a PP3, and don't take a lot of current , so any problems with iffy slip rings would be negat4ed .

Don't know of current taken by horn , but if car is a few years old , might be kind to spend a few pounds and fir an auto relay in circuit . Just measured one =68 ohms, which from calculations would draw about 180 milli amps , so meaning that slip rings could be just that bit dirtier before horn stopped working .
