Black or Anthrachite carpet?

Featured Replies

Went to the stealers today to price up a dark carpet as the cream VRS one lets the car down imo. Has anyone ordered one before? both are the same price. i know some lesser models have a really cheap feeling dark grey carpet so whats th black one out of?!

Lee

i fitted an anthracite one, it feels the same as the cream one and is near black to be honest. Was about £120, the nlack one was about £200 at the time, couldnt tell you what it was from though.

Its 110% improvement on the stock carpet!!!

Check what colour mats are available, the black mats were no longer available accordingly to my local dealer, you dont want to buy a black carpet and then fit antracite mats.

While we're on this subject, does the carpet from a Mk4 Golf fit, as they are the same floorpan and layout???

Yes, a Mk4 Golf carpet will fit.

I fitted a black carpet from a VW Bora 2 weeks ago, which is the same as a Golf.

There is 1 snag though, the mount points for the rear seat base is different on the Bora/Golf and you will be left with 4 holes as pictured below.... easily covered up with spare bits of carpet.

Also theres often good condition second hand Golf/Bora carpets on eBay.... mine cost £30 inc delivery.

don't suppose you had the part number for this did you? as i seem to have misplaced it, and vagcar lists a few :wonder:

Intesting that a previous pic showed the VW Bora rear seat section of carpet having visible holes, I fitted a Black carpet from a VW Bora a month ago and fitted spot on, with no extra holes showing. My rear seats lined up exactley where the original carpet holes were.

Looking at pics now the carpet does kind of look anthracite.

Is the mk4 golf (5door model) the same as the bora one? there won't be any holes showing is what i mean if i buy a mk4 golf one wasn't to sure so thought i would ask. Seen a couple on ebay.

I am wanting to carry this mod out as i can't be arsed washing the cream carpet every other week.

Sorry for the thread hijack btw.

Does it matter if it is a 3 door or 5 door carpet?

Just bagged a nice condition 5door carpet from a golf £10.00

result!

let the fun begin!

How easy is it to change the carpet on these? Is it worth me buying a haynes manual or is it straight forward enough for me to do it without?

Bought a black carpet to put in the vRS, saves having to clean the grey one :D

Got my black carpet today, so will strip the interior out in a couple weeks when Im off work. Any advice for me when doing it?

I might buy one of those trim splitter tools to help me

I was tight when i wanted a new carpet,so i removed it and whilst it was out i pressure washed it to get it as clean as possible and then once dried i dyed it with autoglym midnight carpet dye as recommended by a valeter friend and i think it came out ok,not jet black but deffo better than the horrible white carpet :)

here's how mine looks23092334005_large.jpg

Thats impressive actually. Ive heard you shouldnt wash the carpets outside the vehicle because they can lose their shape, how was yours when refitting?

Had no problems whatsoever with shape and re-fitting,also swapped the wifes light grey arosa carpet for a second hand black one and pressure washed that before fitting and had no issues with shape or fitting with that one either

That looks bobbins!

Fancy having a go at that myself. I've actually got a paraffin fired steam cleaner for this, although I suspect I'll have to keep the temperature low (or off altogether) just in case that might re-form the carpets. I guess touching up the not-so-black bits on the bumpers with the leftover dye can't hurt either. :D

Was one tin enough?

Yes I got a big tub,4 litre I think it was for just over £20 with a trigger spray bottle to apply the dye from local autosmart guy and it did the job, needs a couple of coats and then as it drys you can see where you need to apply more, hope you have good results :)

Cool. Good to know. I'll think about doing that real soon. Mechanical issues to sort first. Mind you, considering my bike is at work in bits, I'd better think about finishing that before I do anything else really. :giggle:

I wonder how that stuff would work on the centre panel of seats? :smirk:

And maybe even the door cards. :D
