Noise From Gearbox . . . .

Featured Replies

Hello all,

MY 2003 Fabia 1.4MPI Manual

A little update on some work done to our little Fabia since my last post . . .

Repainted the car to original silver, added some Audi Sportline alloys ( from a Audi TT off eBay ),

Original Bodykit, AP lowered springs and shocks and changed out a few worned bits.

We are in Singapore and Fabia spares are a real rarity here . . . . so everything came from GB,

except for the alloys and AP suspension kits which a buddy in Germany got for us.

Anyway, the Fabia had a bursted ignition coil 3 weeks ago and was sitting in the shop unitl we got

a new replacement yesterday ( came from Jorily and it took 2 weeks to get to us ).

Now that its running again, we found another problem . . . . .

There's this rattling noise ( we found it coming from the gearbox area ) when you are 1st moving off, both in 1st and reverse.

Happens almost everytime in reverse, in 1st it's less often.

So I put the car in gear, both 1st and then in reverse, releasing the clutch but without the car moving

( i have the handbrakes on ) and the rattling noise gets very loud.

Could this be clutch related, but clutch don't feel worn or something to do the flywheel ????

We have a new clutch kit, plates bearings etc etc . . .

One more question please,

How many mountings are there for the engine/gearbox ?

2 for engine and 1 for gearbox ?

We only got one for engine and one for gearbox from Jorily . . .

Many thanks.

Could be clutch as 1st and reverse give maximum torque through the clutch when you start moving. Could also be clutch release bearing, or worn selector fork inside gearbox. Not the strongest of gear boxes I'm afraid.

Engine and gearbox mounts spring to mind and the well known dogbone mount could be the cause. They would the easiest to check for movement as well.

And where can one find this "dogbone" mount ???

We order the mounts from Jorily and they have only 2 mounts available, one for

the engine and one for the gearbox.

There is another mount on the bottom left (passenger side on a right hand drive car)

This was the one that was not changed. Is this the "dogbone mount ?

Many thanks for the inputs . . . .

Cheers.

Hi all,

Can someone please tell me this part number and point me to a online store to order it.

Is this the famous "dogbone" mount, located just below the gearbox.

HELLO skodasg

If you release the clutch fully whilst wheels are locked does the engine stall/stop??

It should stall/stop, if it doesn't your clutch is very suspect to me.

You have a new clutch kit etc, BUT have they been fitted?? or they are ready to be fitted??

and yes that is the dogbone mount

Hi and thanks for your reply.

Yes, the engine stalls when the clutch is released fully with the wheels locked.

I have the clutch kit but its not fitted yet as I'm not convinced it's the culprit.

Had a look under the car on a hoist and found that the noise is actually coming from

the "dogbone" mount.
