cancelling sky & plus box

Featured Replies

In laws are looking to cancel sky.

If they do, do they use all use of their plus box, and any recordings? Can it be used with freesat?

Not sure about the recordings, but if you remove the card you'll get an idea of what channels you can get. AFAIK you can get sky to issue a "freesat" type card which allows the freeview channels.

you will basically lose the PVR fucntions of the box and will need to request a new viewing card which will give them use of the majority of the freesat channels. My parents have a freesat+ box and if I'm honest the only upside to it is the HD content. If you want free channels there is a better spread on freeview without having to faff about with a seperate tuner box.

I personally would love it if sky would relent and allow use of CAM modules on TV's rather than having to have seperate boxes connected

Just get a Freeview sat hd recorder, job done :)

I've got a different angle on it:-

I seem to recollect that all the recordings and PVR will not be available unless you pay Sky £10 per month but I don't think you need to get a different viewing card as they just turn off the 'paid for' content that you presently have. If you do remove the card as suggested earlier then there will be certain 'free' channels that you won't be able to access either.

Simple. get shot of sky as you wll lose recording playback function.

Get a good Freesat HD Recorder EG Humax ca. £200-250. plugs straight into the sky dish so no install issues and you get some HD with BBC1 & ITV.

Cost of box initial outlay and then thats it.

Unless you add a larger dish with a rotator later.......

I agree with everyone, got shot of the Sky box.

It'll give you freeview, but you'll spend most of your time looking at the "phone xxxxxx to purchase this channel".

My TV has freesat built in, just plugged the Sky dish into the TV & now have all free sat channels.

Why waste a sky dish on the side of the house ;)
