Help my wife's Fabia has died

Featured Replies

I got a phone call from my wife today telling me that her 51 plate Fabia wont start. I've been out to take a quick look but its to dark to do anything. Its got fuel and is cranking okay. There's no warning lights on the dash, although when you try and start it, there's one she says she has never noticed before, its a triangle with counter clockwise circle. We don't have the manual so I've no idea what it means.

The car has fuel and I only did an oil change last week. I did however notice what looked like a small amount of oil on the left hand side of the engine below the pulley belt, which I thought may have been from the rocker cover. Can anyone tell me what else I need to check for before I get a garage to recover it and end up parting with one or two limbs in repair payments.

BTW - There's no oil in the water and no salad cream in the oil, so it looks like the head gasket is okay.

Might be worth you pointing out whether it's petrol or diesel?

i have a manual but theres no triangle with a counter cockwise circle in it.

Your fuel filter might be blocked

The light sounds like the traction control at a guess. Otherwise I'm of no use, sorry.

I PM'ed you earlier suggesting it might be the Traction Control light - this changed design on later cars. Seems confirmed by subsequent postings and research.

The 05/07 manual states:

The warning light  comes on for a few seconds when the ignition is switched on.

The warning light comes on when driving when a control cycle is activated.

The warning light will come on and remains on if the TCS is switched off or if there

is a fault in the system.

The fact that the TCS system operates together with the ABS means that the TCS

warning light will also come on if the ABS system is not operating properly.

Further information about the TCS ⇒ page 126, “Traction control system (TCS)*”.

However I think that's an unconnected problem - can't see why the car wouldn't start if that light was on.
