Transfer of NCD

Featured Replies

Moderators - I am not a freedom member and am not trying to sell my old car on this website (hence no make/model details of the old car in this post).

Wonder if someone can help. I currently own a car with 11 years NCD protected. I've just bought a Skoda and am sorting out the insurance on it. I've been told by an insurance company that until I sell the old car, I can't transfer the NCD to the Skoda. I've been quoted for a multi car policy but this is higher than insuring the Skoda seperately with my 11 years NCD. The insurance co. said that once I sell the old car they will refund the difference (bit skeptical about this!). Just wondering if this is normal procedure and what the best option is (apart from the obvious which is sell the old one sharpish!)?

You could try my company for a quotation, we can usually 'mirror' NCB over to the second car.

You can check you current insurers cancellation rates usually by looking in your policy documentation

Thanks, I'll give you a call later today.

You could "transfer" the ownership to someone else that you trust. The insurance company are pulling one. Once you end the insurance on the first car the NCD should be transferable.

Thanks to Jason from Sky. He was helpful although unfortunately he couldn't beat existing quotes. I have managed to sort this out with my own insurers - when I rang them again I spoke to a manager and they said taking out a multi car policy would incur greater costs which I believe is true. They have now transferred my NCD to the Skoda and put my old car on temporary cover until sold. Thanks for all the replys.
