Octavia Tight Handbrake

Featured Replies

Hi all. I own a 2007 Skoda Octavia and the handbrake has recently become stiff when letting the brake off, I have to firmly push the handbrake downwards. As far as I can tell no other symptoms. Can anybody advise me Please???

Thanks

Likely causes:-

Broken return spring

Stiff or siezed pivot(s) in mechanism

Rusted Bowden cable or broken wire(s) in inner cable.

It really needs a personal investigation rather than a guy several hundred miles away to narrow it down further though.

Thanks Ken your reply has helped me a lot, I just wasn't sure if there was a common cause/fix.

Thanks again

Check the sliding gaiter (if fitted) is moving with the lever.

Hi and welcome aboard.

Any news on the solution? My 2007 Octy has just started doing exactly the same thing, I'm going to have to have a look at it over the weekend....

After posting a question in the Octy 2 section, Nick_H very helpfully came up with this reply, which is exactly what's happened to mine.

I think you will find it's probably the rubber bit that slides when you disengage the handbrake. Has it buckled up and is sticking. Exactly the same thing happened to my old 57 plate Elegance just before I changed for the Scout.
