Sorting out the Fabia

Featured Replies

Hey everyone,

So, I've been driving my '06 Fabia Classic for 3 days now and I love it to bits, but the audio setup really doesn't do it for me. The Classic model has the 17cm woofer and tweeters by the mirrors in the doors, but that's it! I've noticed there are mounts for 4" speakers in the back parcel shelf sides and I have a bunch of equipment from my old car waiting to be re-purposed, so I'm going to do the following:

- Install (Already owned) Alpine SXE-1025S in the parcel shelf sides and run 14 AWG speaker wiring from the HU to the rear.

- Install (Ordered) Alpine SPG-17CS components in the front doors and existing tweeter locations. I've also ordered the speaker fitting adapter for the Fabia woofer mounts.

- Install (Already owned) 10" sealed Pioneer sub + box in boot using velcro strips.

- Run 4 AWG wire with 80 amp inline fuse to the boot, with a fused ( 1 x 60 amp + 1 x 20 amp) distributor to send 2 x 8 AWG to 2 amps (One for sub, one for front components)

- Install (Already owned) Alpine MRP-M500 mono amp for sub in boot.

- Install (Already owned) XSA-480 2-channel amp for doors.

- Run 14 AWG speaker cable from XSA amp in rear of car down to doors for new components.

- Run 8 AWG cable from Alpine amp to sub.

- Install (Already owned) Kenwood KDC-W7544U HU in place of OEM radio using a kit (Facia, ISO adapter, OEM radio keys + aerial booster).

- Run 2 x RCA and remote cable from HU to rear for amps.

Includes a bunch of fork, spade and ring terminals and insulation tape to tidy up crimping.

First off, can anybody see if I've missed anything? This is my first 'all at once' install, so ordering the wiring and new components was a little overwhelming in the AWG + fuse department. Not sure if I'm ordering the right stuff for what I've got.

Secondly, I've love it if anyone has any pointers when coming to do the install on the Fabia? Any hints on removing the trim hiding the wires? Where shall I start unbolting from?

Lastly, if anybody has any questions for me.. Just fire away!

Thanks everyone! I'm hoping to dive in this Saturday and Sunday, so I'll get a little install log going for anybody who would like pointers or who is just interesting in the setup.

Ooh, that link will help come this weekend! Thanks!

Bit concerned about the mounting depth of those speakers in the doors at the moment, but we'll see I guess!

Be interested to see how you get on, I'm planning a lot of this soon too. If you can be bothered taking pics as you go along that would be ace!

Cool! I like I nice set of sounds in my car and I hate having a glovebox full of CDs, so getting that sorted is a top priority at the moment.

Not to worry! I was going to take a mountain of pictures for you all anyway. I couldn't find a complete install guide on here, so figured I'd help anyone else looking to do the same.

MrNorm

hehe my door guide gets around a bit ;)
