yeah thanks every one for advice ext. so far.

They do a job. As long as you accept that they are not going to be as good as a proper remap then probably won't have any complaints.

Definitely not worth 80 quid. Please be aware that a tuning box or a remap will count as a modification, and therefore you will be charged extra on your insurance - so if you can't afford that, you can't afford the mod. However, if insurance isn't a problem and you're set on an analogue tuning box like you've linked to, you can do it for under a fiver:

Using one of these:

...set at no less than about 800kOhms

Had mine for 6 months or so, my other half has a fab vrs and you can def feel the dif between the 2. I`m sure mines is a dragon one aswell.

Whats the diff between a digital box and a generic re-map ?

A digital tuning box is a stand-alone device, which usually goes in series with the line between the ECU and the injectors, making them inject more fuel. This is what a remap does in a way, although this reprograms the ECU itself, and alters turbo boost as well as fuelling. An analogue tuning box (or resistor) also increases the fuelling, but much more crudely.

Do custom remaps affect boost? I suppose they do, what is the standard boost for the vrs and what is it safely capable of?

Cheers.

Yes. Off the top of my head, I think standard max boost is 1.3bar, and the stock turbo is generally OK up to 1.6bar. I think. But don't quote me...

I`d just wait till you can afford a remap personally. £80 for that, your a third of your way to a custom map.
