Amundsen option for Fabia

Featured Replies

I am about to order a Fabia estate in Anthracite grey (1.6 TDi 105PS) and the only thing I am unsure about is the Amundsen option. At £500 (£425 after VAT offer) this seems very reasonable.

What I don't know is what does it do in addition to the standard equipment on the Elegance spec - I know it does Sat Nav! It would be helpful if anyone has this on their Fabia to let us know if it is worth specifying.

Many thanks in advance.

If the Amundsen option = satnav

is there a Scott option for, say heated seats ?

Hillary option for a sun roof ?

Shackleton option for a blanket with a skoda logo ?

This unit is great and integrates well with the maxidot display. The Skoda Amundsen is the same as the VW RNS310 which was in a Touran demonstrator I had for 24 hours. There are more details in this North American review of the RNS315 including maxidot pictures (adds bluetooth connectivity over the specification of the RNS310):

Also have a look at the owners manual here:

https://mediaportal.skoda-auto.com/resource/documentation/manuals/en/Fabia/06-2010/Navigation/A05_Fabia_Amundsen_NavigationSystem.pdf

The main thing to note is that the Amundsen lacks the internal hard disk of the Columbus so you get a choice of running the maps directly from the DVD (losing the ability to listen to audio cds) or installing the maps to an SD memory card which you can then add audio files to. Personally I didn't find the smaller screen size (5") of the RNS310 a problem after having a 7" screen Honda sat-nav unit in my current Accord as the maxidot integration more than makes up for any screen size differences by displaying the information you want in the main instrument cluster.

Thanks David - your info is very useful to anyone considering this option. I am ordering the multifunction steering wheel (4 spoke) and was wondering how that interfaces, if at all, with the Amundsen unit. Do you have any idea?

Thanks again for your very useful post!

Hi Robert

Have a look at page 102 in the Fabia Owners Manual PDF:

https://mediaportal.skoda-auto.com/resource/documentation/manuals/en/Fabia/06-2010/Manual/A05_Fabia_OwnersManual.pdf

The information you are after is there. Looks complex but in practice you quickly get used to the button operations and the way it works. Great for listening to podcasts via the MDI or SD card :).

Best regards

David
