2001 Fabia Elegance TDI EARTH LEAD? And Changing Battery

Featured Replies

Hey guys,

I need to replace my earth lead which is about 30-40cm in length (in Red) which connects the battery to the cars body.

On the left side of the battery if your looking at the battery from the front of the vehicle.

It's pretty thick

Could I used an earth lead off any TDI or does it have to be from the fabia/polo/ibiza models?

Also how could I change the battery myself, I have heard if you remove the battery the whole ECU and internal dash lights need to be programmed from a VAG computer again!???

Any method you know, on how to change the battery?

I just dont want to mess anything up, my dad will fit it all but i'm being precautious.

Thanks

You don't need to reset things with a computer. You'll need the radio code, and to reset the one-touch windows (roll the windows all the way down, back up, and hold the switch in the up position for 2-3 secs). Everything else will be fine. Some petrol models (like our Lupo) in theory need a throttle body alignment, but a diesel will be fine.

Oh thats fine then mate, it hasn't got the orginal radio so that wont be an issue.

What about the earth lead???

What about the earth lead???

No idea, sorry.

If the lead is red and on the left hand side of the battery thats not an earth lead, thats the positive.

Yeah you're right mate, by the way the car is suffering from PAS cutting out, flickering lights, etc.

Could this be the root cause to these problems,

As this lead is slit in half and the wiring has some corrosion?

Thanks

Do a search on the lights flickering , IIRC it is a sticky in the Fabia section too.

Check to see when the engine is switched on that the battery light comes on for a sec too

Good luck

Sarah

Changed a fair few of the EARTH leads recently because or corrosion and flickering lights etc, only about 12 plus vat from your dealer. Thats the short lead on the right that does to the turret.
