I've just ordered a set of 17" winter tyres, since this winter is starting off as bad as last year, for my Octavia VRS which i'm due to collect in a couple of weeks. I've found a good deal on some 17 x 7" wheels to mount them on but they have an offset of 35. I know the standard 18s have an offset of 51 and 7.5" wide so the new wheels would stick out 10mm more and have an additional 22mm inside clearance. Is this acceptable? The 10mm won't be enough to bring the wheel outside the arches but should fill them a bit better. Is there any technical reason why you shouldn't put a wheel with 35mm offset on the Octavia? As far as I know, they will fit...My 16" Winter Alloys are 43 offset and theres plenty of room left

My 16" winter steel wheels are ET50 and no problem, if you look hard enough they do look a bit odd, but dont rub or anything

Hmm, might be a little interesting on the front..... I've got a set of audi 5x112 7Jx16 ET42 wheels for winter tyres and I noticed they stick out a bit on the front..... Clear ok, but then again I'm used to

seeing standard 16" alloys which are only 6.5J with a 50mm offset.

When you say they look a bit odd what do you mean? Pictures?

I have just found a set of steelies from a caddy which have the offset of 50 but thought I would check here before I buy them. At least I know by your post that they will fit a VRS!
