Octavia II VRS Petrol MPG?

Featured Replies

Hi All...

Just looking to see what peoples thoughts are on fuel economy for the petrol octavia vrs mk2...

I have recently bought the car 1 month ago and got it because it seemed like a good all rounder i.e. performance and relative economy. I am doing the majority of my driving this month in heavy traffic with the occasional blasts at the weekends and it only seems to be averaging 23mpg in traffic conditions with feathering the throttle and rolling down hills and then 30mpg when driving like miss daisy on a long uncongested journey.

I have ended up just getting 300 miles out of a full tank which seems a little disapointing consdering my previous car was a 220Bhp 1.8T Golf GTi and it got 360 miles to the same size tank without being careful.

It is what it is at the end of the day but I wonder why the economy is so different to my old golf and if this may be a sign of something not being quite right?

Your experiences and opinions on this would be helpful....

my average is 32. drive like a pansy and it'll go to high 30s or even more sometimes.

Normally 300 ish to the tank 27 to 28 mpg. If it gets some motor way miles up to 400 to a tank. Best of 38 mpg iirc but only the once. Does not like short journeys thats for sure.

06 plate, 33mpg average (+2-3mpg in warmer weather) and on a recent 440mile motorway trip it averaged 39.8mpg. My daily commute is 15miles with 11 of those on 60mph dual carriage ways with speed cameras, so I would expect my mpg to be quite high compared to most.

i know its annoying when people say this, but do a search. there must be 10+ recent threads on it in this section alone. ive posted in most

with regards to the search thing - i thing its a bit pants !

Well that or its me - just did a search for mpg and it brought up no results !

Which engine? TFSI or TSI? Newer TSI seems slightly better on fuel. Our TSI driving is mostly shorter trips with occasional motorways, and we average 32 or so, including me booting it from time to time! Have seen 40+ on a good run.

My Golf 5 GTI (TFSI) was 28mpg or so on the same trips.

I would second this. I drive very much like Miss Daisy and acheive mid 30's. Was dissapointed when I bought the car as on paper it should have been better than the Mk1 but my Mk1 vRS was far better on fuel. As a whole though I don't regard the car to be a fuel monster. Could be better though.

I also agree the search on here is pretty rubbish. I've never found anything using it. Just my findings.

Average 40 mpg on the SWMBOs TSI VRS but can get 43 mpg quite easily on a long run and that is still travelling around the legal limit and up to 10% over it.

Range has shown 550 miles on tank refill. Tyres on the hard side, Michelins, a bit of freewheeling ie stick it up to 70-75 and let it roll down those long hills on the M40 and M25. Load of 50 mph road works and slow traffic so only average 60 mph or so.

Only use 95 octane fuel as waste of time using 98 octane in TSI.

Went down from Worc to Tilbury today in the 1.8 TSI DSG, 45.5 mpg down but only 41 mpg coming back, in a bit of a hurry, 2.15 bar in the front and 2.6 bar in the back tyres.

Both use the EA888 engine, just a shorter stroke in the 1.8 TSI. Lock the 1.8 DSG in to 7 th gear on the motorway so it does not keep changing down to 6th when booting.

Yes lots of posts on this subject. 38-42 in slow free moving traffic . On a typical motorway journey with some A/B road blasts it will return 36-39. It's temperature dependent. Summer commute of 10 miles is 38-40. Winter 32-35. Not bad for available performance. Don't buy this car if your commute is heavily congested traffic through urban areas and you worry about fuel costs. Buy the diesel.

TFSI needs super, TSI seems to be ok on 95 RON

My 07 TFSI long term average is 32.

But daily I seem to get about 33-37??

Best ever was 42 on a slow run to Glasgow through lots of constant speed roadworks.

My 07 TFSI on 98/99Ron averages just under 27MPG. This is based on about ten miles of Dual carriage way and 10 of urban commute each day. I drive like I want to get to where I am going, but not like I stole it.

Real mpg? For me, 1.8 TSI, 27-30 around town, 35-ish on a long run, keeping to 80 on the motorway and the same on A and B roads.

80mph I get 35 mpg

70mph I get 38 mpg

60mph I get 43 mpg

90 mph I get tickets

Figures are tank-to tank and mainly motorway or major roads but all include some town and country roads, overtaking as necessary throughout.

You need to use at least four letters or try a couple of words which include mpg.
