When you install the Bolero it will prompt you for the 4 digit code which you enter using the touch screen - simples!

How is it possible to find the activation code.

I have de Bolero but no code.

When I asked the dealer I was told that it was not necessary. I Wonder :wonder:

I to was told the same.

So if it is not necessary why have a code.

Just a case of a not too helpful dealer.

I do not have an activation code and my Bolero unit is fully functional and far from useless.

You need the activation code if the radio is installed in a vehicle other than the one it is coded to originally. If your bolero was installed into another Octavia it would require the code before you could use it. If you then put it back into your car I'm assuming it would require the activation code again...

That makes a lot of sense.

What bothers me is why the supplying dealer for my car would/could not give me the activation code.

Just to clear this up, the original owner of my Bolero went into his dealers and they gave him the 4 digit security code for it, (apparently it is embedded into the instrument cluster), some dealers will charge for this upto 35 quid!

I needed this code as when it is fitted into another vehicle you will have to enter the code (as raglits says) once it has been entered correctly once it doesn't need coding again, even if its removed from the car (I've tried).

If you buy either a Bolero or Columbus as an aftermarket fit, you will need the code otherwise all you have is a very expensive door stop!! You could try the stealers but as it is a security feature I don't think you would have much luck getting a security code without the HU being in the original car.

Ramonford - I don't see any reason why your original dealer wouldn't have the code, iirc they would of had to input it when the vehicle arrived to them. But don't quote me on that.

Thanks for the most useful information. What you say makes a lot of sence.

I will try my supplying dealer again and see what happens.

Had the same issue when I installed a Bolero for the person who bought mine from me. I had to phone my dealer and give him two things, the Bolero head units system number and the chassis number of the car it was going into. The tech guy at the garage had to then input both into a central database, which was only available to Skoda dealers. He then called me back with the code. That was with Palmers Watford, who for reference didn't charge for the help.

I was supplied a four digit code with my replacement Columbus head unit with the unit without this data, so not sure whether the VIN plate number of the car it goes into is actually important. What is important is that the security code bore no relation to any car or stereo numbers as I has previously been told.

Hope this helps.

The radio code can be supplied without the need for a VIN plate, just the radio's serial number is required. Although officially they'll probably tell you that the VIN is required as well.
