Mac newbie needing help

Featured Replies

Hi all

Despite trawling the Apple support forums I am unable to find any clear instructions on how to transfer my iTunes library from Windows (Vista) to my new MBP. Having copied the iTunes folder onto an external hard drive do I just paste the contents of \user\Music\iTunes (it seems to contain the library plus artwork, apps, games and some iTunes db files) into the Music folder on the Mac? Surely it can't be that simple, can it?

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks guys, will give them a go tonight. You'd think that Apple would make more of helping us PCers move over to Mac.

Go Into the Itunes folder on the External HDD, locate the tracks in ither

<albums> <songs> <playlists> etc etc

Copy to new mac............. open itunes........... auto populate..... will auto download the covers too.

Well thats how i did it to my mac :smirk:

Hi Slugman.

It should indeed be that easy... all you will need to do once you have done that is add the music files to your itunes libary from inside itunes (which I think is different on the different versions of itunes)

Just make sure that the destination that you paste the music into is the same as where itunes will keep any more music that you download, or you might run into trouble.

Hope that helps!
