Low clutch pedal

Featured Replies

Hi,

This morning my car was ace in the snow, but the clutch pedal was noticeably lower than last night. As in, it was difficult to shift smoothly due to reduced pedal travel. The pedal is normally much higher than the foot rest on the left, it stared off below it and over the 30 min drive through traffic if raised up to just above the rest, still lower than normal.

It was still lower than normal despite being up to normal operating temperature. It was fine last night after sitting still at work for 10h under snow.

Could it be some air in the clutch fluid thats compressed? If it is, is it a DIY job (no jacks/ axel stands/ drive or garage) or take it to get mended?

Thanks for any help

Martin

Maybe your brake/clutch fluid needs a change.... the cold weather might be affecting any moisture which has been absorbed into the fluid.

When was the fluid last replaced?

It maybe moisture in the brake/clutch fluid freezing and restricting the flow.

Normally, I would say it is a DIY job to replace the fluid, but if it is ice causing the problem you would be better to take it somewhere. It needs to be done inside so that you can be sure that no ice remains in the pipes.

Hello tall_martin

Your clutch and brake share the same fluid reservoir (as far as I know).

The need to bleed the system is a DIY job, having two people is better,

but you declare you have very little in the way of basic tools and an area to work,

so your choices are limited, let a garage carry job out.??emoticon-0124-worried.gif

only diy if you have a pressure bleeder

before you say you can use the brake pedal by pumping it your cant it will wreck the master cylinder seals on the octy

Hmm,

Thanks for the reply's.

I'm not low on tools, but i've got no specific ones for the job and would be working on the (snow covered) street.

Its off to the garage for me:(
