Boost Spike vaccum pipe

Featured Replies

Hi ive recently had my car mapped and the maps spot on theyve never had a problem with it at all

it spikes like a bitch goes to 20 then 12 then 20 then 12 & then itsettles of at 12 all the way through the revs.

ive changed the EGR valve to a J one.. make no difference (does it need setting up)

Also been told you shorten vaccum pipe? ( Can some one please point me in right direction to vaccum pipe )

Also a different wastegate could be needed?

really am greateful

Thanks

Not really sure how shortening a vacuum pipe would help... plus I would imagine VAG are not going to supply a car with more (or longer) pipework than necessary as that would eat into their profit margins!

Hi Shane.

Your car doesn't have an EGR valve! You mean the N75 command valve. If you've fitted the J version then you've fitted the wrong one. The J version is very old, and has a slow response. Which is why people use it incorrectly to get a boost spike. It's the wrong one for your car, so you're better off going to Skoda and getting the latest one based on your VIN. Oh and you can't "set" them up.

Shorten a vaccum pipe?! Never heard that one before! There are probably about 50 vacuum hoses/pipes on the engine. Just leave them as standard, because they are perfectly fine, as thousands of people can confirm.

Nothing wrong with the standard wastegate actuator either. So it shouldn't need upgrading for a simple remap.

A stage 1 remap should work perfectly on a completely standard engine. There are no modifications required. Just make sure the engine is in good health.

So either you have a problem somewhere (vacuum/pressure hose leak or faulty valve somewhere), or the map is bad. Who's map is it anyway?

Never known a tuner to admit that there is a problem with their remap! They always claim that they've never had a problem before. Funny how they often blame the N75 valve if the customer has a boost problem. In my experience it has never been the cause. More likely to be a vacuum / boost leak or a dodgy diverter valve

Standard N75 valve is a C, but has been replaced by F, which will be what Skoda dealers will supply you. The J valve will give a steeper initial spike but will tail off quicker than the standard valve. Shortening any of the vacuum piping will make absolutely no difference. I suppose it is possible that someone could have adjusted the wastegate actuator arm incorrectly, but it's uncommon for people to venture there.

I had the same problem, example; highway, 4th gear, 3000rpm, then I floor it boost jumps to 1.7bar then to 1bar then back to 1.5 then 1bar etc.. My tuner was blaming the car but after I remaped the car with O.CT map everything is working great.

So if you don`t have a big leak somewhere and the car was working OK with stock map, probably the map is crap.
