This happened to my wife's Polo I had to order a new key and remote from a dealer with the V5 as proof of ownership, pick up the key to open the car and get it recovered to the dealer to programme the immobliser. All in about £150 with 2 keys. While I was at the dealer my wife phoned to say she had found the key!

That is very cheap, they are normally around £160 PER KEY.

We had the remotes from old company cars that went back with 1 key

That was for 2 keys and programming the immobliser as we had 2 remotes to fit to the keys. I can't find the bill but am sure of the price as I had to pay it!

I have checked everywhere.but its nowhere to be found. And i just got a quote from a dealer new set of locks with 2 keys fitted is £367.You guys think its good?i mean 2 key is like £320

But trouble is I dont have breakdown cover so i cant get it towed

You don't need a new set of locks, just order a key from your chassis number at a dealer. If you can't get the car towed then you need a mobile auto locksmith who can code the key for you.

Some specialist auto locksmiths can also read the key code from your door barrel and cut a key there and then, code it up and you're away.

would the locksmith replacement remote be manufacturer standard or some tacky ones?but what if the locks have been changed prior to my purchase so the lock doesnt match up to the VIN. Will they still be able to produce a key from something?

Assuming the locks are original all you have to do is order the key from the dealer and when it arrives you collect it and get the mobile auto locksmith to come out, code it up and away you go.
