poor signal from aerial

Featured Replies

Can anyone suggest a reason why when it has rained and/or the car is cold - my AM radio signal is terrible.

But on a hot / dry day it is fine?

OR - Can you suggest a higher strength aerial?

Many thanks!

AM?? lol, who uses AM anymore?

Seriously though, the quality of AM signals has always been appalling ever since they were first introduced. With crackling, whining, interference, regular peeks in volume and bad reception depending on atmospheric conditions and distance/line of sight to the transmitter etc.

I'm no expert but you might wave water ingress into the booster in the base of your aerial affecting reception. Quite a common problem I think.

Could be way off tho, :wonder:

Thanks for the reply - any ideas if I can fix that myself?

Thanks again!

lol - I know, you're right - but I like listening to Five Live and TalkSport - both are AM exclusive stations!!

No problem. Yes, switch to FM! :D

EDIT: Just saw your other reply, damn those stations for continuing to use an inferior freqeuncy! Can't believe a small band of loyal people still listen to them to be honest. Is Atlantic 252 still going? I used to love that, but I couldn't take the reception any more so took my ears elsewhere!! :giggle:

In answer to your question I don't think there is much you can do to boost your signal as the AM frequency is so effected by distance to the transmitter and atmosphereic conditions as said previously. You could always move closer to a transmitter? You would have to be pretty damn loyal to do that though!
