Whats the best way to make the car faster with little budget?

Mine is a Fabia VRS 2004

It might be a stupid question but I just want to hear different opinions

Whats the best way to make the car a little faster with little budget? And ideally I want to keep the car as standard as possible

Say my budget is £200 + -

Apparently a remap cost around £175-£200, but I don't want go down the route of upgrading brakes and clutch, etc.

Is it sensible to remap the car as "economy mapping" which claimed to make the car cheaper on fuel and also with a little gain (20%) on bhp? And I will have to leave the clutch and brake standard.

Or is there other option? cheap tunning boxes?

Or should I scrap the idea completely and wait until I have more budget?

tuning boxes have their place but get a digital one not analogue. Analogue ones very crudely increase fuelling, digital ones are slightly more high tech.

TBH you dont need to upgrade brakes/clutch with a remap, but brakes would be prudent as you are making the car go faster so at any one point you could be carrying more speed and so braking power is important. That said the 312mm brake upgrade doesnt decrease stopping distance, it reduces brake fade. A clutch is only needed if the map is peaky with torque at full boost. It can be easily 'driven' around by changing your driving style.

A remap is the best way forward. A good remap you wont find for £200 though im afraid (and dont scrimp on who you get it done with - there is a reason why good mappers cost more than bad ones!!). budget for perhaps double that all in. Also budget for the insurance hike too.

Unfortunately modding cars and budegts dont tend to be used in same sentence. I'd save your £200 and spend on something else (or save for future mods) and keep car standard until finances improve...

You don't have to upgrade the clutch or the brakes with a remap just keep the figures at a decent level

One thing that may make a difference is how you drive ... there are two parts to this. The first is how you use the engine and gears - and I've seen people try to use all the rev range when they could get better performance by changing up earlier, and at the other end of the scale I've seen people habitually change up too early negating all the potential performance of the engine. Separate to that I've seen people trying to accelerate from too low engine revs, meaning there is a delay before the proper acceleration kicks in; keeping the engine in the power band means you go quicker!

The second part is how fast you come out of hazards. Take bends, for example. Most people are still braking when the limit point starts to move; they're always behind what the road is doing. Similarly, people dwell on the hazard they've passed instead of getting on with the driving. Fixing these sorts of problems means that your car goes faster. The best thing is that learning to drive better is a transferable skill - your next car will be faster as well ;-)

Depending on you existing insurance premium. the only thing you may be able to do on that budget is put it towards a good set of tyres.

If you remap or otherwise modify the car, you could easily end up paying £200 more on your insurance.

Budget for modified car insurance before thinking about scrimping on budget modifications! Some budget mods may end up doing more harm than good.
