Power Steering

Featured Replies

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum, I'm after some advice really. I've had an Octavia VRS for 6months, and I've recently had a problem with my power steering. Took it to the mechanic and was told I had a small leak in the power steering pipe and to try a tube of sealant that you pour in with the power steering fluid. I have tried this and the leak has continued.

Spoken to my mechanic and he has said it will cost any where from £200-£300 for a new pipe. Anybody any idea if this price is reasonable or anywhere I can possibly get one cheaper?

Thanks in advance

Simon

Power steering pipes are expensive from Skoda / VAG dealer, i would avoid because you can get them cheaper elsewhere.

Option 1: Find a pipe on ebay, search for octy's / golfs being broken for spares, just double check the part numbers (you can call your local dealer for the part number on your car, call again with the breaking car's reggy number to check the part no on that).

Option 2: Lookup one of the mobile companies that do HGV high pressure lines. They will take your old pipe and make one up in the back of their van to the same lengths / shape, however it will be an industrial strength job, wayyyyy better than anything VAG ever put on a car :-) Very cheap if done as a cash only job!
