Yeti Jacking Points

Featured Replies

I am familiar with the normal jacking points as shown in the handbook for each wheel, but I was concerned about using a trolley jack for lifting the front( gearbox?) or rear of the car having had a quick look underneath. There is a warning sign at the rear of the 2WD on what looks like the suspension strut saying not to be used for lifting. I can't see any other obvious place at the back or front where you would position a trolley jack, and no info in the book. You know the scenario, you drive into a tyre place and after a quick glance under quite often they run a trolley jack under and lift the front or rear, and not being a common car I was wondering what damage could be done by a careless person. Just thinking ahead for when I get my winter tyres fitted. Tony

Hi Tony,

I lifted mine on the hanging seam jacking point or close to it anyway. If you find the lifting point 'triangle' on the bottom edge of the plastic sill cover, you will notice a drain hole in the hanging seam very very close by. Run your fingers along the seam to one side of this and you should find a heavier feeling section to the seam. this is were I used with a thick square of MDF as a pad between the jack head and the car.

When the fitters in town originally fitted the winter wheels with their industrial size jack with a rubber jack pad, they also used the seam. Found with their jack lifting on the front point actually lifted the entire side of the Yeti :o so they didn't need to jack at the rear.

Remember that lifting the car on one jack can unsettle things guys if you start undoing the wheel bolts on the back wheels or something , always support the rear too or accidents can happen easily

Running a garage we always use the sill edge these days as they are the designed jacking points on most vehicles but our trolley jacks have rubber contact poins and are wider than the home diy versions and are quite stable.
