Engine check light and sensor

Featured Replies

My wife's 2001 Skoda Fabia refused to start a couple of weeks ago and I suspected a dodgy battery and that she had flooded the engine, I had to leave it over night and went back to it and used a jumper pack, it took a few goes, but I eventually got it going. It appeared to be fine for a week or two and I have since checked the battery and alternator using a voltmeter, the battery is showing over 13 volts and over 14 with the engine running.

Tonight on my way to my brothers the engine management light came on and I notice the temperature gauge has not moved, the car seems to be running fine? I gave the rad pipe a quick squeeze after parking up and the pipe didn't even feel hot? and it wasn't solid - seemed like no pressure had built up despite having driven 60 miles.

I have ordered a Haynes manual and a VAG diagnostic cable. I am away for a week, but will order a new engine temp sensor. Is there anything else I need to look at or test?

Anyone? :'(

I think realistically you need to get it scanned to find out which faults are thrown up... (sorry - just noticed you've ordered a scanner)

I away from home at the moment, but hopefully the scanner will be waiting for me. I was getting getting hot air through the heaters, so I'm thinking the pump must be okay, so that leaves the thermostat or sensor - correct? Do these cars stop working if the engine management light comes on?
