Coolant warning light

Featured Replies

Started the car this morning after a very very cold night and coolant warning light came on and was beeping.

The coolant level is fine and it certainly isnt too warm. Does it go off if car is too cold also?

Any ideas as im afriad to drive the car now.

Oh and the car alarm was going off again too due too the cold during the night.

Starting to get quite annoyed that the car cant seem to handle a bit of cold weather.

It's prob just a broken sensor (which is part of the coolant tank). Replace the coolant tank, I did mine earlier this year and it's straightforward. If you turn ignition off and on again the warning light will go away.

Don't know about the alarm, but the coolant warning light is due to a faulty sensor. If you can't get inside the expansion tank to clean it, you will need a new tank although this isn't very expensive. So long as the level in the tank is OK by eye, and the temperature gauge doesn't go too high when driving, then you have nothing to worry about! :)

Cheers for the replies. Will get a look later.

My car really doesnt like the cold lol.

Three times the car alarm has gone off during the night, this happened on the three coldest nights this past week.

The wiper fuse went due to the frozen washer bottle which is prob normal, now the wiper bottle warning light keeps coming on even though its full and working fine.

Now the coolant light is on with everything seemingly fine.

Is it just mine suffering or anyone else getting similar troubles due to the weather. Surely a car is built to withstand the cold.

Just to add - got home from work there and tried the car again and no coolant warning light so im thinking again, the cold is possibly messing with it as with the alarm.

My coolant level light has come on the past couple of mornings due to the hard freeze overnight, once the engine has warmed up it goes off but it could still do with the bottle changed as I can't scrape the prongs :(

Anyone got a part number for the expansion tank ?
