Headlamp washers

Looks like VCDS is the answer then. I'll see if my supplier can sort this out the next time I'm in.

My FL Scout has the sensor and warning light on the dash.

Quite surprised to see that you have a warning light within your speedometer, but also have maxidot. My washer warning light is in the maxidot cluster itself, and flashes yellow warning alternating with the time/compass heading at the top of the display every 5 seconds. There's definately no other warning light in the speedo on mine

Mike

Exactly the same on my vRS.

Owner's manual shows the symbol in the speedo and that a warning message "Top up wash fluid!" will appear in the information display

...sick of the sight of it - four times in the last week! :@

That looks like pre-FL fascia - mine is FL and is in the speedo. Guess the pre-FL is different?

Mike - module 9 Central Electrics, long coding - then Byte 5. There's a screenshot in the other thread too, for reference.

Cheers,

Steve

Ahh good stuff. Just saw your note about this in the DMF/SMF thread. But glad you're sorted

I did tests with a few times saved and 1500 seemed a decent compromise for me. What was yours set to originally, out of interest?

Steve

Does anyone know if these timings can be altered in the facelift Octavias? Checked all through the long coding in the Central Electrics module 9 (1K0-937-087-D) of my Scout but couldn't find anything about washer timings -Byte 5 was codings for central locking confirmations in mine.

On the FLs they've moved quite a few of the functions held by 09 to another module - I just can't remember which right now!

Pretty sure this will be available elsewhere in VCDS for yours. I'll try and find out.

Steve

i didn't know about the dash warning indicator. i'd rather have a physical indicator i can check periodically, than wait for it to run low and start flashing on me.

if u looked at my signature - i do have xenons.

i also do check all the various fluids at least once a week. however the washer fluid does NOT have an indicator level marker like my previous cars did.

I keep a small bottle of double-concentrated screen wash and a bottle of water for emergencies, fits just right behind the rear internal panel in the boot.

Wardy, have you, or has anyone else, managed to find the location in VCDS for a FL SCOUT for adjustment of the headlight washer delay. It drives me mental and would like to sort it out.

Cheers.

Don't have access to an FL vehicle, so no.

It must be in there somewhere though! There's a place for coding on the pre-FL, ergo....

Mine was set to a factor of 4, which gave a delay of 200ms, same as yours. Must be the factory default. It certainly seems much more economicial on the washer fluid now that it's set on a factor of 30 (1500ms), with the headlight wash only working when I want to to!

Given it is likely to be the same bit of electronics which is counting the length of spray as is counting the number of sprays it seems a bit daft to be able to change the setting for one and not the other. Mind you I'd fit all new cars with an Ethernet socket and a web sever so the user could access all the settings without having to invest in specialist test kit but I guess that's a different topic ...

Don't get your logic there I'm afraid. What's wrong with changing the delay, and not the regularity? I find that's spot on. Then if on the 5th use of the wipers I feel that I'd like the headlamps washed too, I'll hold the stalk back for 1.5 secs :)

OBD over Ethernet? Hmmm, fair comment but I think you'd need a fair bit of standardisation on the webserver/software side! Nice idea though
