Sick as a pig B *** Alloys!

Featured Replies

I read all the earlier comments about the apparent UK Skoda obsession with alloys and low profile tyres on the VRS and Elegance models and the potential l for damage

Yesterday I had the misfortune to slide very slightly on the ice just touched the kerb.

Fortunately no damage to the tyre or to the outer rim of the front near side

But the “spokes” which project out from the alloys are now badly marked.

Yes could claim on insurance but would be under my excess figure

I do wish Skoda would consider the practicalities of day to day motoring not just the looks.

Hence one of the reasons why I'm getting winter wheels for my Fabia, take my street for example. The amount of snow that has fallen you can't actually see where the kerb is and with the fact my street does not get gritted means the street has just turned into a skating rink!

It's not just a Skoda issue either. Had a new Corsa a couple of weeks ago whilst mine was in for some service work, and I noted before driving away the spokes on the nearside front were badly scared from kerbing, yet the rim of the wheel was fine. If it's just superficial it can be repaired rather than replaced at any bodyshop. I had one done over a couple of years ago from a Golf. It cost just £45 for one wheel to be sorted. It was good as new when done.

People think they look cool, and that's coz they prefer style to substance, never mind the greater unsprung weight.

My wife's Fabia II TSI 85 Elegance with it's lightweight engine and wide Continental tyres feels very insecure on the road in these wintry conditions; thankfully the ESP has kept us out of trouble so far other than getting stuck in a car park.

Decided to bite the bullet and ordered a winter wheel set from mytyres; the price has come down £90 from last week for Bridgestone 195/55 R15 (match the size of the spare).
