Tyre Problem

Featured Replies

good afternoon.

I have a 3 month old L&K with just over 10,000 miles on it.

Over the last 3-4 weeks I have noticed excessive tyre noise when travelling from 50mph to about 20mph.

I took the car into the dealer today, and they took it for a road test, and then put it on the ramp, and their conclusion is that BOTH rear tyres are out of shape.

They say that this could be due to pot holes, but I do find it amazing that it is BOTH rear tyres, and no problem at the front.

The tyres are Bridgestone.

I accepted their diagnosis, but the only solution they have come up iwth is to chaneg the tyres, which at xxx per tyre, is not going to happen.

Anybody else experienced this with such a new car, and has anybody had any joy with Skoda?

Look forward to responses.

Jeepers!! I have only just done that mileage in 18 months! :o:giggle:

Yes it's a common problem on Octavia's and the dealer should be ashamed of themselves as they know all about this issue!!

It's not just Octavia, it's every model within VAG that shares the platform, on third Octavia Vrs now and they have all gone out of shape at the rear, also had a Leon FR (same chassis) and it did the same. Basically the rear camber is not adjusted at the factory from new, it can't be, so the net result is uneven wear on the rear. Pain I know but you can argue until blue in the face with the dealer as they will just quote pot holes etc. Funny thing is that if your local dealer has 4 x wheel tools they may say that the rears are not adjustable, I proved this to be incorrect, as had it done last week by Denmead tyres (Hampshire) highly recomend them, top outfit...

My advice to anybody looking to but ANY car from new, not just VAG, is have the front and rear camber settings checked on the day you get the keys, in that way you can then go back to dealer and say, well you know what! Again a pain and most likely will take the shine of what is in reality a shiney car, but it waill save the heartache in 10k miles or so.

I have now got to shell out about £400 + to have new rubber, fronts are going anyway but the rears have at least another 5-10k on them, hey ho.

Another Update.

Had the 4 wheel geometry done a couple of weeks ago. Chased Skoda at the beginning of the week, and since got a call from the dealer to say that Skoda were not happy with the settings, and the car has to go back again to them (only 1 hour each way to go to a Skoda approved place)

Since the first allignemnet, I have done just shy of 2,000 miles, so the longer it takes to get the right, the bigger claim I think I have against Skoda.

Not cant take the car back for two weeks, so will update when I have more to tell.

These toerags have said its a characterisic of Bridgestones, a characteristic of Dunlops, and obviously they are a characteristic of Pirellis too, because mine have just been replaced because of the same issue!!!

So PRAY SKODA....WHAT TYRES ARE WE SUPPOSED TO USE????

I had loud road noise at 40/50 mph - thought it might be wheel bearings. Skoda main dealer could not sort it or give advice - not very impressive as there was uneven tyre wear on both rears. After reading up on Briskoda site I decided to take car to specialist wheel alligning workshop They tested all wheels and realligned the two rear tyres for about £70 - and since then ( 15,000 miles) I've had no problems.

I am trying to gauge how many owners have or are suffering damaged tyres due to incorrect geometry / camber or anything else that is causing this. As I have previously said I am not mechanically minded so bear with me on the title.

How many of us are out there wondering what to do about it. How has dealer treated you.

Please see my thread "Register of Complaints" and add your details.

Thanks

cannot believe this is still on-going.

After chasing them last week, they told me that they thought that them having arranged for the Geometry to be set, they thought it was all resolved. This I informed them (obviously) was wrong.

I have just emailed Customer Service to let them know that if they have not confirmed by this friday that they will change the rear tyres, I will do it, send them the bill, and then make sure that they get as much bad publicity as possible.

Tick, Tick, Tick, Tick.
