I have a mk1 tdi estate in silver, its lowered a fair bit still on original alloys but soon to be changed,

Im a little bored of the front end, i was thinking of painting the front chrome grill black, what do you think this would look like?

also if anyone has a silver mk1 with black crhome grill surround could you post a few pics for ideas,

I just used Satin Black paint and then laquer, you'll need to prep it well though and you'll need the laquer as its likely to chip off easily otherwise, failing that you could wrap it in vinyl instead.

i've seen people soaking it in bleach to strip the chrome and some using sand paper, What did you go for? i intend to do a few layers of primer/colour/laquer

Well the sanding proved to have no effect on it lol, I've not actually finished mine yet though, that pic was a brief test pic to see what it would look like but I wasn't happy with my painting so I'm redoing it all over again plus I've ordered some retro style badges to finish the look off

the chrome is a **** to get off! i tried alsorts and ended up buying some of asda's own thick bleach (cheap as chips) and soaking it for a couple of days, made life a whole lot easier.
