Yeti-like

Featured Replies

The Yeti is quite unique regarding its shape. With far too much time on my hands, I was trying to think of a car that was/is closest to it.

The best I can come up with is the now defunct Honda HRV which was also known as " The Joy Machine" or perhaps a Fiat Panda on steroids.

Square like a Merc G-Wagen

Good call - more so than the HRV.

There is a CRV that parks 10m from me every day. I think the CRV has smoother lines than the Yeti and the rear is much nicer. The Yeti is boxier but to be fair that probably has to happen to keep the compact nature of the car whilst having impressive internal space. Surely the CRV is much longer than a Yeti.

My younger brother recently changes his '54' plate Honda CR-V to an '08' plate CR-V and the new shape is SOOOOO much nicer than the old shape.

We compaired his CR-V to my yeti and the only thing he has that I don't is a reversing camera, bit I have the park assist and front & rear sensors so I don't really need a camera.

Not driven his new CR-V yet but the old one drove like a bucket of bolts and the brakes were the most slugging I have ever experienced

How about Racho X Tiguan front and Berlingo (Mk1) Back? With those Stratos windows....I think they look more like Mk1 Yaris 3 Doors Windows

IMO it is only the original CR-V, which ceased production in 2001, that is Yeti-like in shape providing you ignore the exterior spare wheel. The Mk 2 and the current one appear less similar. The HR-V of course did not wear its spare wheel externally. This is now the case with the current CR-V.

Had the 2nd generation CR-V, a 2tr petrol automatic, not the most economical of vehicles by far, struggled to average 30mpg. Found the side hinged rear door non too practical.

CR-V stands for Compact Recreational Vehicle and HR-V for High Rider Vehicle I believe.

One of the reasons I like the Yeti is it reminds me of the breadvan style Polo of the early 1980's, one of which was bought new by the family and passed around various members for 20 years without ever going rusty.

The Yeti is a similar stlyle at the rear with the vertical hatch, just on a larger scale.

Also had one of those, in fact it was my first brand new car. I recall the day I went to collect it and it was parked outside at the dealership when I noticed two small dents in the driver's door. Finally collected it one week later. A disapointment but it taught me to give a new car a real good look over on collection. Dread to think of that happening following a 6 month wait for the Yeti !

Or, a Suzuki WagonR on mega-Steroids. Same shape, and ditto styling.

WagonR+Hulk inducing drugs = Yeti.

I Have to agree with Bassa - my next door neighbour has one of the latest Panda 100hp, with all the kit, and the general shape is very similar to the Yeti (though much smaller!).

Agree that the early CRV is much more of a match than the HRV - and the SM is a far bette rride than the HRV too.

HRV was a great car, did 60k plus miles in mine but it was noisy and underpowered in low revs. Certainly stood out from the crowd in it

I have wanted to do a post about the old CR-V for some time because just as stated every time I see one I think, yep, that must have had in some part something to do with the Yeti's design. here is one sans spare:

I think it is also to do with the "wrap around" rear glass and the C-pillar mimicing the Yeti's B-pillar.

Glad you said that! I've mistaken a Soul for a Yeti from a distance on more than one occasion.

You win the prize for being 100% correct ;)
