02 VRS DRIVERS DOOR

Featured Replies

hi everyone

ive just brought a vrs and i must say what a great car it is, sadly i seem to be having a few problems with the drivers door.First thing is it wont always lock/unlock off the fob, however it works fine manually with key and off the switch on drivers door, also the car does not pick up the drivers door being open so it locks all doors if you only open drivers door , the interior light dont come on when drivers door is open, door open on dash dont come on, the lights left on alarm dont sound either and the light at the bottom of the door dont work, ive searched on here and checked the plug on the window motor and its clean as a whistle please can someone point me in the direction of what else i could try to fix this

thanks lee

you probably need to replace the door mech.

i was thinking it could be micro sensor on its way out, if it was faulty would it cause all ive described?

Probably is as i had those symptoms with mine.

If you feel brave you could have a go at replacing the microswitch like i did in this guide i did.

Even if you just get a replacement door lock mech the guide will help you remove yours and replace it.

They are around £90 i think.

can the micro switch also cause the windows to decide to close when your in the middle of winding them down?

I would not think so as the window curcuit is different. to the door mechanism, however your convenience unit may have gone, as that operates the doors and windows. The convenience unit can get water in it and cause strange behaviour

where is this unit located, can this cause the door faults to?

Check the connection pins on both the loom and the control unit (mounted on the elec window motor) in the drivers door for corrosion. Cleaning oxidation off the pins may be possible, but it may be the case that some of the pins are too far gone for repair.

I have the same problems with my 04 vRS,any luck finding out what was wrong?

I have the same problem with mine currently. I did soak it in WD40 to keep it going, and put off doing the replacement job! It worked fine for nearly two months, but this bad weather has seen it off again :giggle: I will soak it in WD40 again, and use it until it refuses to work and then replace!

If this does the trick, you might want to apply some some dielectric grease to the connection block to keep out the moisture out. Don't go too mad with it tho, it's none conductive ;)

I bought some of this & treated all the connectors under I could see under the bonnet...
