Engine Strength testing + Uprated Clutch Development

Featured Replies

Seems you're far more focused on MPG than performance with your VRS’s on this forum (which is one of the main benefits of the new 1.4) but thought i’d let you know that INA engineering in the US (A huge firm for up rated clutches, turbo’s and head work) has imported our little 1.4TSI engine and gear box to start R&D on some up rated parts along with the help of members of SCN.

They will start by testing the tolerances of the engine “They will check the buckling load of the roads and see how they compare to 1.8T 20V cracked components†so we should gain actual information to how strong our engines really are.

The dry clutch 7 speed box is not a complicated as the initial rumours would have you believe with regards to the clutches being no more difficult than changing the clutch on an 02J/02M box etc. All that will be needed on top of this is a DSG remap to accommodate the different biting point. I imagine they will also remove the stupid kick down in manual mode which can sometimes be accidently triggered. The sport mode could also be matched to your powerband rather than reving its balls off to the red line which as I demonstrated last week with the Rolling Road graph is completely useless on a standard engine.

If you fancy tacking the progress, offering your support, experiences or help then look at this thread.

Hi Mardon, this sounds really interesting. It's my thing...or used to be. I now mainly dabble with big bike engines, stretching them to the limit. I shall follow what's going on. By the way..."testing buckling load of the roads" sounds really interesting too! I ain't seen that done yet. :giggle: tee hee! Good luck mate.

Wont be me thats doing it thankfully. I'll be leaving it to the pro's and enjoying the benefits further down the line.

Will be interesting to see the results thats for sure.

If my best 0-60 is 5.1 on a Stage one (1/4 mile timed) what will it do with 250BHP!!
