Broken Drivers side door

Featured Replies

The drivers door in my Car is unable to stay shut.

I opened it this morning before heading out to work when i tried to close it "bounced" open again.

My Guestimate would be that the catch on the door has stopped working as the rest of the door sceems clear.

Has anyone else had this problem or have any clue how to fix it.

All help is very much appreciated.

Had this exact problem last week when it was minus double figures - the door handle had frozen and had to drive with a belt round the door grab handle and under my legs (and turn the interior lights out so that they didn't flash every time I went over a bump!!!).

Once the car had warmed up (vents pointed at the door) it was fine.

A short cut to see if it is just a temp / frozen ice issue is to douse the door in warm water from the outside which would melt any ice that is causing problems (but given the current temps round here it would undoubtedly re-freeze and make the problems even worse!!).

I always have the fear of the hot water freezing in the freezing tempreatures.

I do love your commitment to continue driving with the dodgy door, I may have to do this if its still frozen tomorrow.

Thanks mate its appreciated

It was last monday during the chaos and carnage that we had! (well, it was very early on the Tuesday morning and still on the journey home!).

Once it does free off the lubricate well with oil after WD40 (the WD stands for Water Dispersant / Displacement and is quite good for replacing melted water in intricate moving parts!!)

Hope you get it sorted bud, it's bad when you can't even lock your car back up!

This is awesome.

fine has also done this and left me with a car I can no longer lock! I've moved it to my lockup and covered it in a car cover - plus i'm going to put a heater on inside the car to see if this sorts it! :)
