Petrol Flap Won't Open

Featured Replies

Went to put petrol in today & couldn't get the flap open. This has never happened before, but I can only assume it's frozen. Was a tad embarrassing !

I'll be treating it to some warm water before I go back & try to fill up again. I am surprised as it was a 'tropical' -7 degs here last night.

Anyone had similar issues?

Once, at -12. It was fine once it warmed up again

Happened a few times with me, I just go inside and ask for some hot water

Twas at Asda...just a wee cash kiosk...will try some warm water tomorrow before I head there

stupid question time, you didn't lock the car when you got out? i do that without realising sometimes :/

I think you will find this is a common problem! This happened with my old Octy (55), and the locking plunger seized intermittently, wd40 was the solution once you get it open! I think you could search on here for a few threads on this?

Not a daft question...because it was the first thing I checked...but no - it was frozen shut.

Heading out in an hour, so will run some warm water over it, hopefully get it open & WD40, as suggested by lozparry....hopefully Asda still have fuel, only 4 pumps open yesterday.

Job done...warm water, finally did the job, took some time tho'...and then WD40'd the moving parts, seal...fingers crossed.

Now wondering if the WD40 might stop the sliding door on my wifes Mazda 5 freezing, it's happened a few times now...P.I.T.A !
