itunes probablem after OS reinstall..........

Featured Replies

Anybody had any problems with itunes after doing a reinstall of their os?

Problem i'm having is that i had to do a complete reinstall of XP, once i was up and running i reinstalled itunes, and plugged in my ipod classic and recieve this message: "the ipod is synced with another itunes library" so i cannot get all my music that is stored on my external hd (that was synced to the music on my classic) to display in itunes - i went into the options and changed the store folder to the location upon my external hd, but i still get the same message.......... I don't want to do the wrong thing and end up losing all the music and having to re-rip 300 odd cd's again! anybody know what to do here?

Here was me thinking it would be all so easy as i had everything backed up on the external hd........... :-/

What did you back up to the external hard drive?

If you backed up the old itunes library ID then you should be able to rescue it. When you install itunes it creates a library ID, this is different everytime you install and this ID is what links an ipod to the itunes library.

If you have the old library files you can use a HEX editor to read the ID of the old library and change the ID of the new install to the same as the old one. The procedure will be similar to this, except you'll need the ID of the backed up file rather than the installed on a second computer

If you don't have the old config files then you may have to copy the music from the ipod by putting it into USB mode Clicky

or if you are happy to resync the ipod, just let itunes wipe the ipod and re-sync the music. You haven't lost the music from the hard drive, the warning is telling you that it will wipe the ipod...
