Insurance question

Featured Replies

Hey guys, quick question.

I tried to get a renewal quote for my vRS including an exhaust and a remap, when it came to the "modifications" part, remap wasn't an option. Am I right in saying that remaps would be covered under 'blueprinting'?

Cheers, Shaun.

I presume you were doing an online quote - I suggest you speak with someone rather than rely on guessing. A remap isn't blueprinting according to my understanding of the words...

Blueprinting means an engine built with components built to almost exact manufacturers specification, as opposed to being within the normal factory tolerances for the parts.

A better explanation can be found here.

Yes, that's my understanding - and I'm not sure why you'd need to declare that at insurance time - unlike a remap. That said I can't see why anyone would actually bother blueprinting a Fabia - or any road car for that matter. There's more to be gained by modifying it...

I believe it's mainly used on race and rally car engines where the engines cannot be modified beyond a given specification. I think it was also used by tuners back in the days before ECUs and fuel injection, along with ported and polished heads and high-lift cams.

Those were the days...

And go-fast stripes!
